Bernanke’s Report Card: ‘Must Try Harder!’

When Ben Bernanke became Chairman of the Federal Reserve (the US central bank) on 1 February 2006, oil was at $58, it is now $94.80. The S&P 500 was at 1,264, it’s now at 1,205. Gold was at $480 an ounce, it’s now at $1,602. The official unemployment rate in the US was 4%, it is now 8.6%. Unemployment among teenagers was 12%, it’s now 24%, and the average duration of unemployment was 15 weeks, it’s now 40 weeks.
